Maui’s Resource Recovery Facility will hire 40 to enhance recycling efforts

Maui officials recently announced a new deal designed to help convert waste into fuel. The city’s project will create 150 temporary construction jobs and 40 permanent operational jobs.

The Maui Resource Recovery Facility will reduce 85 percent of the waste Puunene sends to the Central Maui Landfill.

Central Maui Landfill is the largest waste facility in the county. 

Expected to be fully operational by 2017, the Maui Resource Recovery Facility will use waste from the landfill for conversion into much needed energy resources.

Maui’s Resource Recovery Facility will also feature a separate facility to separate and recycle metal, glass, plastic, cardboard, paper and other reusable items from local businesses and public agencies.
